Notes

Alternate chording: Dm, F, A There’s a little cultural hegemony going in with “Hallelu.” It’s nice to incorporate Arabic in the songs, but as a Christian Arab, it’s a little unusual to be using the Muslim names for God. They aren’t “wrong,” necessarily, but they are highly associated with Islam in the Middle East. In the United States, for a white audience, it might seem less problematic (because the U.S. treats Muslims and Arabs so poorly), but I am almost certain it would jarring for a Christian Arab, who has suffered persecution for their faith in the predominantly Muslim homeland, to come to worship and sing what they very well may see as the oppressor’s names for God.
